TTX is a command-line tool, created by Just van Rossum as part of the open‑source FontTools library, that converts TrueType and OpenType fonts to a human‑readable XML format and back again. It lets type designers, font engineers, and developers inspect, edit, and debug font tables with precision by “round‑tripping” between binary font files and .ttx XML files.
TTX supports common desktop and webfont formats (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2) and can selectively dump or compile individual tables. It handles a wide range of OpenType tables, including those used for layout (GSUB/GPOS) and variable fonts (fvar, gvar, MVAR), while preserving data so changes can be tracked and versioned. Written in Python and installable via pip as part of FontTools, TTX runs cross‑platform and integrates smoothly into build pipelines and quality‑assurance workflows.
TTX is developed by Just van Rossum. The most popular version of this product among our users is 2.0. The names of program executable files are premapp.exe, ttx.exe.
